Antiqued Boxwood and Ebonized Boxwood

The House of Staunton is proud to offer the Georgian Series Timeless Chess Set. Part of our Timeless Collection, it is a reproduction of one of the oldest and rarest Pre-Staunton Pattern Chess set we've encountered at the House of Staunton, one that dates back to use during the 1770s. It's name, the Georgian Series Timeless Chess Set, is an homage to the ruling monarch during the Revolutionary War, King George III.

The Georgian Series Timeless Chess Set features a 4.4" King with a 1.4" Diameter base and are nicely weighted. The Chess pieces are hand carved by our master artisans and crafted out of the highest grade woods and are an exact replica of the originals, down to the smallest details. They feature billiard cloth base pads and have a beautiful, antiqued finish - including on the Ebonized (black) army!

The Chess pieces are heavily weighted with luxurious billiard cloth base pads on the other Chess pieces and a feature a beautiful, antiqued finish. The design of the Georgian Pattern captures the artistic form and styling of the Pre-Staunton era, where the focus is solely on artistry and aesthetic beauty. Many of the features found in this set, such as the flower-like Bishop top to the intricate ring design of the major pieces, were later incorporated into such sets as the Calvert and the St. George Patterns that dominated the Chess scene during the early 1800s. The House of Staunton has recaptured the essence of these magnificent Chessmen and made them available on a very limited basis.

The most striking aspect of the Georgian Series Chess Set is the beautiful patina on the Boxwood (White) Chessmen. Our artisans have accurately captured the rich, golden color commonly found on well preserved antique Chess sets. As with all of our Chess sets, the Georgian Series exemplifies a perfect combination of distinct beauty and functionality. It has been designed to withstand the rigors of practical play while maintaining an elegance which has become the hallmark of a House of Staunton chess set. The design, quality and craftsmanship of this set is UNMATCHED by any set of Chessmen in its price range. Nothing even comes close!

The Chessmen are new and each set consists of 34 Chessmen, including four Queens, a standard that was introduced by The House of Staunton in 1993.
